Rob Bell - On Mars Hill and Its Ministry

Today I received a forward that is basically a short 3-part dissertation from Rob Bell on the various "thoughts" out there about him, his writings and the ministry of Mars Hill Bible Church. I found it very interesting and welcome hearing from the "horses" mouth. All three videos will take about 15 minutes with the last one speaking of the church and its need to reach out.

I'm listening to the first video - I'm not agreeing as much as I thought I would, in particular on the point of not "worshipping the Bible".

Psalm 138:2
"I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name AND YOUR WORD [emphasis mine]."

I watched these videos this weekend as I did a little “emergent church” research.
Granted I don’t fully comprehend the principles of the emergent church movement, but it is clear Mr. Bell feels the need to defend his church and its teachings in this 3 part diatribe.
I almost get the feeling in his quest to diversify and to differentiate Mars Hill from other churches, he’s created this controversy. It's certainly getting them alot of press.
Also he refers to a negative Amazon book review, of which I read many concerning several of his publications.
Have you read enough of the book you’re reading to know what the key issue is that mainstreamers are having with him?

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Rob Bell and his approach to ministry. God has used Rob's teaching in my life to draw me closer to Christ. I am a podcast subscriber to Mars Hill and have used his Nooma videos in my Sunday morning teaching young adults. If he hadn't made these comments, critics would be making the point that he ignores them because he can't argue them. When he does comment, he's creating his own controversy. Catch 22. I appreciate it when anyone attempts to "set the record straight."
